The Minnesota Renaissance Festival: A Journey Back in Time

Hazzah! It is time for the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, one of the largest and most celebrated Renaissance fairs in the United States. The festival offers visitors an enchanting journey back to the 16th century. This annual event, which takes place in Shakopee, Minnesota. Typically, it runs from late August through early October, drawing crowds eager to experience the magic, history, and revelry of the renaissance era.

This year, your Renaissance adventure begins on the weekends of August 16th-17th through September 28th, 2025. In addition, the festival will be open on Labor Day (September 1st) and Festival Friday on September 26th. The gates open rain or shine at 9 AM and close at 7 PM, so plan accordingly for this one-of-a-kind experience!

First held in 1971, the Minnesota Renaissance Festival has grown from a small gathering to a grand event. Today, it attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year. The festival spans seven weekends. With each having a unique theme, such as 'Shamrocks & Shenanigans', 'Buccaneer Beer Bash', and 'Oktoberfest'. These themed weekends offer a variety of activities, performances, and special events. There is question that each visit is a new adventure.

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival is renowned for its diverse entertainment options. From jousting tournaments to live music, comedy shows, and magicians, there is something for everyone. The festival grounds are populated with over 500 entertainers. This includes entertainment by jugglers, acrobats, and wandering minstrels. All entertainment is dedicated to creating an immersive experience.

Many of these artisans also demonstrate their crafts, providing an educational glimpse into the skills and trades of the Renaissance period.
